Liner Properties

A release liner is the component of the pressure sensitive sandwich that functions as the carrier for the label. It stabilizes the facestock sheets and protects the adhesive prior to application.

Properties of Liners:

Release:The force required to remove the release liner from the facestock at a specified speed and angle.

Release coat:The material on the liner which allows the pressure sensitive label to release (Silicon).

Lay - Flat:Refers to a label material with good non-curling and low distortion characteristics.

  • Liners are manufactured as base materials, paper or film, which are coated or treated with a release coating. Insufficient release coating will cause the label to have a very tight release or none at all. Excessive amounts of release coating will cause the labels to dispense too easily, or not remain intact on the liner.
